Gimme Freedom or..oops gimme sharia or..

When a country gives too much of freedom and facilities to its people, people tend to abuse it. Examples would definitely be the abuse of all the new railways that were introduced with hitech facilities. What happened? Well, people started stealing the equipment, leaving the exchequer drained with nothing to show, and the reputation of the country unsalvageable (is there such a word? There should be in the Webster’s dictionary with the example of those Indian people who steal for the “joy” of it). India seems to have an abundant capacity to forget these “trendsetters” but this is being reported worldwide and India has become a laughingstock!

Talking to some people yesterday, here in Delhi, and the general opinion among all of them was that people steal because they can, not because of any need! The general consensus was to keep CRPF jawans in each compartment! Not a bad idea, but the opposition parties (READ: khangress) would definitely call this a state of emergency because people are not “allowed to pursue happiness”!

To this pursuit of happiness, we can now add the desire of the peaceful people to create sharia courts! Really? What happened to the constitution? That’s not in favor of the peaceful religion anymore?  Give us sharia or give us a separate country!! Sounds like Patrick Henry saying give me liberty or give me death! The country is coming to a point soon, if not already there, where anyone can demand a different country! Is this what that famous freedom fighter Kanhaiya Kumar meant when he said Bharat tere tukde honge, inshaallah inshaallah!

A Whole Lot Of Nothin'

After watching a video (well, briefly watching it before I had to move on or throw up) of Siddhu and his “Soniaji da javab nahin”, I was wondering if there are any sane congress personnel in the party.   Let’s see, Scindia? Nope. Can’t get his head out of Rahul/Sonia’s behind.   Likewise with Diggy; likewise with Tharoor (although, I do giggle at his way of expressing his opinions; but more about Shashi some other time).   I don’t see anyone that is not ready to put his/her head up their butts. For a little while, I thought MMS just didn’t talk because he’d start cursing the bejeezus out of the duo; but, I was wrong.   It’s been 3 years since he last saw any power and yet, he still seems to have his head stuck there. With all these people fighting to get their heads up there, it’s a wonder the mother/son duo can actually walk!! Maybe it’s on the application form to join the party: 1.        Name 2.      ...

The Future Is In Your Hands

On the eve of the Karnataka elections, it is necessary that we introspect on what has been achieved and what needs to be achieved. In addition, we need to do an autopsy to see where things went wrong with our choices.  What has been achieved is an easy answer to some and not so easy to others.  Do we have the basic fundamentals guaranteed to us by our democratic constitution?  Do we need to modify the existing constitution to adhere to modern times?  The existing government has not done a very good job of ensuring equality among all people.  Reservations and breaking a community does not count as equality; it does, however, show the limits to which they will go in order to win an election.  Rahul baba and his trusted lieutenants have gone to extraordinary lengths to ensure a Hindu community is broken down into a multitude of factions.  When he's with Brahmins, he is a Janevdhari Brahmin; he's a hindu when it matters and a muslim with the muslim comm...

A Mixed Bag Of Emotions

A very profound statement made by my son had me thinking. He said “I don’t mind coming to India for two weeks but can’t see myself settling down here.” No, it’s not a rehash of what I had written a year ago (or close) although it does seem like it.  The trip to Delhi was half business and half pleasure(or so we thought). While the hotel itself was beyond compare, the weather was not doing us any favors. The minimum temperature that we had during the day was on the day we left (105F). How does one cope with this intense heat, without going crazy? I had to constantly soak my head in cold water just so I could avoid fainting.! My wife was in the same boat! My son, however, didn’t sweat as much, but it was clear he was uncomfortable. If one thought Delhi was hell, well nope! Agra was pure hell with the temperatures hovering around a 110F and no signs of rain!  One could be forgiven for thinking it was just another day when seeing the locals going about their business without ...
