The Destructive Indian Mentality

When I see the infrastructure being developed in India, I get a sense of pride; that my country of origin has decided to move into a stratosphere inhabited by an elite few! The country is headed in a direction that should have happened eons ago, but didn’t! Whatever the reasons maybe,it is finally happening. People from around the world are amazed at the advancement India has made in all walks of life! I stand corrected: nearly all aspects of life except the destructive Indian mentality. Why is it that Indians feel they’re owed a good life but don’t know how to sustain that good life! If my father moved us into a new plush house, I’m not going to destroy the house; I’ll ensure the house is in good condition for as long as I live there! Why is it then, that I can’t seem to think of the country as my extended house??

I saw a video of the incredible trains that are being introduced into the metro and railway system. While I was feeling a sense of pride, I was told that many of these trains are in a stare of destruction as people just destroyed them. Why? It’s not that we don’t understand what’s good and what’s not!! What is it that prompts us to think we should destroy property?

When I asked this question on my weekly radio show, most answered that it was because of the number of people in India as well as a lack of education. Well, China has a sizable larger population than India does and still doesn’t face this kind of defacing and destruction that India does. Education is not a degree that one gets at the end of four years of attending a college/university but the ability to decipher right from wrong! When parents teach values to their children, these should not be suggestions but laws to lead life with! When things are going against us, we invoke the law but when it’s not, we don’t seem to have a problem breaking it!!!

This mentality of using the various new facilities and systems being provided to the people is not to flaunt the wealth f the nation but to improve our lifestyle and the quality of life. Until people realize this, India is going to be a “third world country” and nothing more. I know many will tell me the word third world is being used in the wrong context (and I know the right context too) but today’s world seems to think third world means a lack of facilities!!

Most people would tell you this will improve over time. I don’t think so!!

A Whole Lot Of Nothin'

After watching a video (well, briefly watching it before I had to move on or throw up) of Siddhu and his “Soniaji da javab nahin”, I was wondering if there are any sane congress personnel in the party.   Let’s see, Scindia? Nope. Can’t get his head out of Rahul/Sonia’s behind.   Likewise with Diggy; likewise with Tharoor (although, I do giggle at his way of expressing his opinions; but more about Shashi some other time).   I don’t see anyone that is not ready to put his/her head up their butts. For a little while, I thought MMS just didn’t talk because he’d start cursing the bejeezus out of the duo; but, I was wrong.   It’s been 3 years since he last saw any power and yet, he still seems to have his head stuck there. With all these people fighting to get their heads up there, it’s a wonder the mother/son duo can actually walk!! Maybe it’s on the application form to join the party: 1.        Name 2.      ...

People Just Don’t Care

What is it that prevents the common Indian person to stay away from the polling booths. Not all of them, mind you. For the most part, people understand their responsibility and come out to vote. Then we have a group of “elitists” who don’t seem to think they need to grace the polling booth, for whatever flimsy reason they can concoct. It’s not like they haven’t seen lines of people waiting patiently, and yet a line of people waiting to vote seems to be a formidable force that they get maimed by! Is this what a true democracy looks like? Even in the USA, we have scragglers who don’t show up to vote but that’s a very minute part of the population. When a city , the size of Bangalore, shows only 50% of its population votes, this does show a systemic problem. I would venture a guess that the city is inhabited by a transient population that is unable to connect with the local representative. However, ideologies should dictate the vote not the person. A good person belonging to a corrupt p...

Pulwama: Should India Pull-A-Whammy?

in the wake of the horrible attack and killing, of Indian soldiers in the Pulwama area of Kashmir, people across the globe have been calling for retribution.  I’m not here to preach peace, that’s the last thing I (or any outraged Indian) want. However, we have to realize that while an all-out war will wipe out Pakistan it will  also affect a portion of India.  This is not what we need. What the Prime Minister has done is admirable.  He’s gotten the major global economic powers, like France, Japan and the USA to back him while other countries are falling in line.  Our friends from Israel have backed us in the event of any war, which I hope never happens for the above reason alone.  Having said that, India needs to hurt the neighbor where it hurts the most, the survival of an economy.  The value of their currency tells you how badly their economy is doing. While the Indian Rupee is at around 0.014 USD, the Pakistani Rupee stands now at 0.0072.  To...
